Facebook Pranks!
Practical jokes are an art form, but playing practical jokes and pulling off pranks on Facebook requires true creativity. Below are several ideas for Facebook pranks that can help get you started thinking about the ultimate way to use and abuse your social network. Keep one thing in mind; it is illegal to pose as someone else on Facebook, so think twice about any prank that involves hijacking a Facebook account.
The “Like” Facebook Prank
This one is fairly straightforward and falls into the category of irritating pranks. You choose a friend and “like” everything on their profile. Then as soon as you like it, you immediately delete your comment. Your friend will get loads and loads of notifications. This is an irritating prank, but not a particularly creative one.
The Password Status Update Prank
You need a friend to help you with this one. All you do is post a status telling people that if they post their password in a status update or comment that Facebook will automatically convert it to asterisks to protect the individual’s security. Include an example of your “password” to prove that is works. See how many of your friends fall for it.

Mess with Mom Prank
For those who are haunted by the prospect of being Facebook friends with mom, consider that if she has entered into your online fiefdom, then she is fair play for a prank. This one works best if you can get some friends to help you out.
Start by changing your status from single to in a relationship and choose some pictures of someone you know will displease her. Get your friends to leave comments about seeing you in unsavory places with the new crush and in compromising positions. Photoshop some images of you on a mechanical bull and post some provocative messages that are far from the wholesome child she brought you up to be.
Of course, make sure you can prove it is a prank should mom lose it entirely. After all, you just want her off of Facebook, not wearing white and living in a padded room. In short, make sure that when you mess with mom, it does not become a mess with mom.
President of Facebook
This one may be hard to replicate, but is worth including as a demonstration of how far a Facebook prank can go. In 2008, Arash Derambarash decided to participate in an election to designate a new person as “Facebook Worldwide President” every three months. The election worked through an app that kept track of polls, allowed for campaigns, and showed results for the fictitious office. Arash won the election and then used it to get some attention from media in France. The result was the hilarious duping of the mainstream French media into running with the story and declaring Mr. Derambarash the actual president of Facebook.

Facebook Gold Account
This one is a lot of fun and requires nothing more than copying the picture below and posting it to your wall. It states that it requires the image, which doesn’t actually exist, can only be viewed if the user gets a Facebook Gold Account, which also does not exist. This is sure to drive all of your friends crazy as they go looking for how to sign up for a Facebook Gold Account.

The Profile Link
This one takes some creativity, but if you post http://facebook.com/profile.php?=73322363 in any message or comment, it will always return the person who clicks it to his or her own profile. For example, you could say that the person is wanted by the police for questioning in a recent shoplifting incident. This works best if you know the friend was recently at the mall. You could say anything you want with this feature and it won’t matter who clicks it because it will always take them back to their own profile.
The Fake Group Prank
In this prank, you set up a group, preferably in a way that it cannot be traced back to you, and then add friends to it. For instance, you could set up the “My Little Ponies Fan Group” and invite add all of the tough-guy types you know. Be sure to make it real, with references to events, messages back and forth, and pictures if you are handy with Photoshop. Tag all of the pictures and make sure to share the group with as many people as possible.
Concluding View on Facebook Pranks
Take care to ensure that you don’t step over any lines when pranking friends. Keep it light and fun and remember that cyber bullying is now illegal in some places and can land you in serious trouble. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have fun, it just means you should use appropriate judgment. Of course, if you are pranking your mom, she isn’t likely to report you to the police.
